Booking Terms

Discover Canal Cruises · Discover Leiden · Last updated: 3 November 2026

1. Who we are and when these terms apply

Discover Canal Cruises and Discover Leiden are trade names of Visser Advies, Ontwikkeling & Uitvoering (KvK 73516597, VAT NL002016659B06), Troelstraplein 22, 2314 EK Leiden, the Netherlands. You can reach us at info@discovercanalcruises.nl, info@discoverleiden.nl or +31 (0)71 56 90 367.

These terms apply to every tour booked directly with us: through our websites, our booking pages, by phone or by email. If you booked through GetYourGuide, Viator or Airbnb, that platform's terms apply to payment and cancellation; the rules for the day itself (section 4) apply to every guest.

2. Booking and payment

  • Prices are as shown at booking, including VAT.
  • Your booking is confirmed once your payment has succeeded.

No right of withdrawal. Our tours are leisure services on a fixed date and time. Under Dutch and EU consumer law, the 14-day right of withdrawal for online purchases does not apply to them. You can still cancel under the conditions in section 3.

3. Cancelling or changing your tour

The cancellation period for your tour is also shown at booking. To cancel, contact us. Want to change the date or time? Ask us; we will move your tour free of charge if there is a free slot and you ask within the free cancellation period. For tours priced per group, fewer guests than booked does not lower the price.

By us

We may cancel or shorten a tour if it is not safe or not possible to sail or walk: for example storm, thunder, ice, very high or low water, a closed waterway, a breakdown or illness of the guide or captain. We then offer you another date or a full refund, as you prefer. Rain is not a reason to cancel; please dress for the weather.

Refunds go back to the payment method you used, normally within 14 days.

4. On the day

  • Departure point. Most tours start at Beestenmarkt, Leiden; your confirmation shows the exact meeting point. Please be there 10 minutes before the start.
  • Late arrival. We wait up to 15 minutes. Because our boats sail in fixed time slots, a late start shortens your tour by the time you are late; we cannot sail beyond the planned end time. If you arrive more than 15 minutes late, the tour may count as a no-show.
  • Group size. The number of guests may not exceed the maximum for your tour or boat. The captain may refuse extra guests, for safety reasons.
  • Children. Children are welcome and count as guests. Guests under 16 must be accompanied by an adult who is responsible for them.
  • Safety and behaviour. Always follow the instructions of the captain or guide. We may refuse guests, or end the tour for them or the group without a refund, if they are clearly under the influence, endanger safety, damage property or seriously disturb others.
  • Who runs your tour. Tours may be run by our own team, by freelance guides or captains, or by a partner company working on our behalf.
  • Accessibility. Tell us in advance about mobility needs or allergies, so we can check what is possible.

5. Liability

  • We are liable for damage caused by our fault, as Dutch law provides. Our liability is limited to the amount our insurance pays out in that case, or, if the insurance pays nothing, to the price of the tour. This limit does not apply to death or injury, or to damage caused intentionally or through gross negligence.
  • We are not liable for loss of or damage to belongings you bring, unless caused by our fault.
  • You are liable for damage you or your group cause to our boats, equipment or venues.
  • We are not liable for delays or changes caused by circumstances beyond our control, such as weather, water levels, bridges, locks or events in the city.

6. Privacy, complaints and law

  • Privacy and photos. How we handle your data, including photos taken during the tour, is described in our Privacy Statement.
  • Complaints. Something not right? Tell the guide or captain on the spot, or email us as soon as possible, and in any case within 2 months after the tour. We aim to reply within 5 working days.
  • Applicable law. Dutch law applies. If we cannot resolve a dispute together, it can be brought before the competent court in the Netherlands.
  • Changes. We may update these terms. The version that applies is the one published on the day you booked.
